Mo' Money or No Money?

Article By Tony Karon

It is no surprise that our country is in  recession. In fact, this country's economic woes are the center of attention in most political discussions and citizens worries. Some have gone as far as saying that this is the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, however to compare our current state to that felt in the 1930's might be a bit too much. Nonetheless the fact is that we are indeed experiencing a 9.1% unemployment rate, inflation and a huge federal debt. There are those who are now claiming that perhaps capitalism is highly flawed and doest always work. However, China would beg to differ.

In the above Time Magazine article, Tony Karon shows us that while it seems that capitalism is failing across the Western world, in China it seems to be thriving. The most ironic thing being that a Communistic-led country is beating out, our democratically elected government in its implementation of capitalism. The article states, "Beijing's stimulus spending was larger, infinitely more effective at overcoming the slowdown and directed at laying the infrastructural tracks for further economic expansion." In other words, China is simply doing better than we are. But why?

While the U.S. continues to increase its poverty level, China has lifted over half a billion from poverty. Perhaps the fears many conservatives have that our current president is a communist might be better for the country if true! Of course, this is all in jest and there is no doubt that Communism is greatly flawed. While most in China are happy at the increasing middle class in China, there are still many social injustices and crimes that occur under the communistic government. It is not the fact that China is communistic that is helping its economy however, but instead their view to the future. While the U.S. is focused on the now, China is laying the infrastructure for the fast changing times. So if the U.S. wants to strive forward it has to take, perhaps unfortunately, a rather Darwinian approach: adapt to the changes or perish.

The article presented in Time Magazine is clearly journalism. It is purely fact with little to know opinion except that which is added to give the article a sense of personality and voice.  The author uses numbers, quotes, figures , etc to back up his point, which is simply that China is doing better economically than the U.S. There is little left to take an opinion on and therefore does not leave room for bias. The author does not try to tell us to turn to Communism or the like but simply states things that can be researched and proven. It is purely journalistic.

The CBT of Creation for Social Science states, "In God's sovereignty, He controls the rise and fall of rulers and nations" This of course includes the rulers put in place in our government. We must remember that despite economic woes, policies we may not agree with or any number of problems in our country, God is still in total control of what is going on in the way we are being ruled. That is not to say that we cannot do anything to make changes that we deem necessary in our government, but we are allowed to do that though our votes and influences as citizens and so we need to take our disagreements and bring them up in the proper way, keeping in mind that God is always in control of all.
