Royal wedding hat sells for $131K

Royal wedding hat sells for $131K

The ridiculous hat that was seen by all at the royal wedding went on sale on Ebay and brought in quite a few bucks. The winning bid of 81,100.01 pounds (about $131,341) was placed hours before the end of the auction. As crazy at this all sounds it isn't all bad because all the proceeds went to charity. Beatrice, the hats owner, donated the hat to be auctioned online on eBay.com, with proceeds to benefit  charities that help children. The listing describes the silk hat as a "unique sculptural celebratory headpiece.Proceeds from the auction benefit The Little Bee Initiative, a campaign set up by the princess to benefit UNICEF UK and Children in Crisis, according to the listing.

The CBT that applies here is that of Growth: We must be stewards of the blessings that God gives us. While I am not sure if the buyer of the hat was thoroughly interested in the charity aspect of the buy or just wanted the hat because it was a recognized thing, that lady who sold it has followed the CBT of Growth. She could have easily kept the hat or sold it and kept the money, but she knew she had many blessings already and that she needed to give to others. The talk and sale of the hat all seem silly, but its good to know that a genuinely good and productive thing has come from it.

  1. Now I feel bad for calling her the Mad Hatter...haha. I first thought this story was going to be just about the outrageous price of an ugly hat, but I was surprised to see what the motives were behind selling it. It goes to show that there are still good, generous rich people in the world.

  2. Who knew an ugly hat could do so much good in the world? Let's hope the person who bought it had motives of charity, not a strong desire for (un)fashionable headwear. I wonder what charity it went to... but way to go, world!! Way to prove that we still care.
